I know I'm a day late in posting my views on Valentine's Day but yesterday I was so busy and tired, I just didn't get around to it. However, I do have some things I want to say about this holiday. I have a lot of unmarried friends -- many never married, some divorced, and some widowed. I couldn't find a single one who was happy about Valentine's Day. Even most of my married friends didn't seem too keen on the holiday. I don't really understand why so many people dislike this day. I like it! I mean what's not to like -- flowers, chocolate, love, and did I mention CHOCOLATE??? I think V-day is hands down the best chocolate holiday of the year. And that makes it a good day in my book! But really I think I like the holiday because it's all about love. Each year I am reminded of the sweet little valentines my Dad would leave for all of us when we were young. He would ring the doorbell and then hide while we squeeled with delight at the boxes of conversation hearts. Even now I still get valentines from my parents. And I love remembering valentines in elementary school where you made your little box or envelope and everyone in class had to give everyone else a valentine. A little forced perhaps but still a cherished memory. I think in all my Valentines Days, I've only ever had a significant other once (maybe it's due to my infatuation with chocolate). To me, Valentines isn't just about remembering and showing love to our signifant others but it's more about appreciating the people in our lives who are significant to us. I love giving my parents, nephews and neices, friends little tokens of love. I know it's something we should strive to do everyday but life gets so busy sometimes, it's nice to have a day when you can devote all your time -- or at least more time than normal -- to showing that love.
I've been thinking a lot about all this the whole week and honestly, it sounded better in my head than it does on this blog (that could be because I'm half asleep while I type). Anyway, those are my thoughts on the "love holiday".
I'm too tired to think anymore so I'm going to bed. Oh, but I did want to let ya'll know that Jumper (new movie that just came out 2/14/08) is not worth spending your hard earned money on!
